Efficiencies of solar cells, which have already been achieved in the laboratory are already remarkably high, but still there is a lack of industrially applicable technologies to start mass production of high efficiency solar cells.

The working groups of the photovoltaic division take care for different aspects of industrial applicability of laboratory developments.

The application of modern laser technology allows for the contact-free production of highly efficient solar cells using ultra-thin silicon wafers (< 150 µm). Within a few seconds 20,000 vias are drilled intoa silicon wafer to generate the basic structure for a highly efficient RISE solar cell.
